HOW TO BECOME BUDDHA
Here's a little summary taken from one of the new Google Gadgets I just 'bombed' my Google home page with. A lot of neat stuff to check out and weed through. Anyway, I forgot to get the site name so will post it later but it is a sect of Buddhism that utilizes mantra/prayer to enlightenment, if I understand correctly. Here it is summarizing the common elements for all sects:
How to reach Enlightenment in this lifetime
Many sects and traditions will have different practices to complement the Eightfold Noble Path laid out by Shakyamuni Buddha, but all have these as their basis:
The Eightfold Noble Path.
Right Views - the four noble truths,
Right Thoughts,
Right Speech,
Right Conduct,
Right Livelihood,
Right Effort,
Right Mindfulness,
Right Concentration.
The Eightfold Noble Path - details:
Right Views: i.e., Knowledge of the Four Noble Truths:
The world is full of suffering and stress.
The cause of this suffering and stress is desires of physical instincts.
If desire can be removed, and suffering and stress will be ended.
Desire can be removed by following the Eightfold Noble Path:
Right Thoughts: Aspire to attain realization of Nirvana, i.e., perfect wisdom, the ultimate true permanent reality.
Right Speech: Abstain from all lying, falsehoods, evil, abusive and frivolous speech.
Right Conduct: Keep the Five Precepts:
abstain from taking life,
abstain from taking that which is not given,
abstain from misconduct done in lust,
abstain from lying,
abstain from all forms of intoxication.
Right Livelihood: Abstain from all evil living and all manner of ill-gotten gain or means of livelihood.
Right Effort:
abstain from all evil states of mind;
foster and maintain virtuous states of mind;
compassion,
pity,
sympathy,
calmness and
tranquility
Right Mindfulness: Regard everything as being impermanent, ill and corrupt: ie. all:
feelings,
perceptions,
inclinations,
consciousness,
thoughts,
mental states,
mental images and
mental activities.
Right Concentration:
Foster dispassion, detachment, and revulsion for the things of the world as being
decaying and impermanent.
Practice aloofness from evil states of mind, from the senses and all sensations.
Practice dwelling in solitude and seclusion, meditating and reflecting with
singleness of mind.
The Four Noble Truths:
The world is full of suffering and stress.
The cause of this suffering and stress is desires of physical instincts.
If desire can be removed, suffering and stress will be ended.
Desire can be removed by following the Eightfold Noble Path.

Taking Stock -- Midway through the New-Trawl Zone
So, four years post receiving my mysterious "calling" to a spiritual journey (about the fourth one that I can remember so far) and three years post my world turning upside down in the second personally disastrous business failure within the same decade (1992-1998 and 1998-2003, respectively, may they R.I.P.), there is some light beginning to peak through the new, unrecognizable landscape in which I've landed myself. For the first time in years, it's beginning to excite and arouse my interested curiousity.
The stars are telling me to take stock and, thanks to Mr. William Bridges' work on transistions, I may have hit the midway point in the transition/regeneration process I commenced in 2003 - - once I began to know what I hadn't known before and my loved ones were out of danger of physical level heirarchical needs.
Sounds cliche and maybe trite, but that's why they are cliches?!
1. When life gives you lemons, . . .
2. It appears that, although the patient in fact died, the Operation was a success, dear Doctor.
3. Thank you Mr. Johnny Hitler (not his real last name and no relation to Adolph, that I know of, without dna testing which ... Good Luck getting THAT from him),.. Thank you for the opportunity to learn all of these unwanted lessons and disillusioning ideas (I'd always assumed that disillusionment was a BAD thing).
It was early morning yesterday,
and I awoke before the dawn.
I really have enjoyed my stay,
but I must be moving on.
-- Supertramp, Goodbye Stranger.
It occurs to me that with this tiny bit of light beginning its "shining through," it may be the harbinger of a quickening toward the next phase of the journey started in May 2002 BBB (Before Brother Bailed).
Whatever that next phase may be. . .
. . . the clarification of which shall be revealed before this Transition to Regeneration shall be declared complete.
Odd yet amazing things seem to be afoot just beyond eyesight, out there in the floating debris -- the flotsam and jetsom of prior uninformed choices. Thank god for my life-jacket. . .
Pay heed and look alive, my dear Watson!
Next time --
Another Brother's Return to F.o.O. Work! Mr. Milman, what is it you say about spiritual journeys?

A Tortured Saint (and an addict ass-hole).
As the regeneration process trudges away, it occurs to me that I'm an asshole sometimes and my consciousness is primarily engaged in achieving some sort of true sanity (read "nirvana?"). My next album will be entitled "An asshole Addict ... and a Tortured Saint." Or vice-versa, depending upon which is the pre-dominant side showing at the time ... lately, the Addict/asshole has been prevailing. . . Grrrr! jaz
